Blue Boat House

Blue Boat House
Self Contained Accommodation
Otago Peninsula, Dunedin, New Zealand

The Blue Boat House is close to Dunedin and has the most spectacular views of one of the world’s most amazing harbours!
Located at Harington Point on Otago Peninsula (wildlife capital of NZ) and only 30 minutes drive from Dunedin.
Situated at the very end of the Otago Harbour the Blue Boat House extends partially over the water
so you can literally fish from the deck.
You feel you are on board a boat, your stay will not only be comfortable it will be a real unique experience!

Be amazed by the abundance of wildlife surrounding the Boat House.
Watch the birds, seals and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
See little blue penguins as they jump up on the rocks just after dusk.
They can be a BIT noisy in the early evening and just before sunrise.
The Blue penguins are present most of the year and if you are quiet
and move slowly you can be amongst the "little Blues".

See 'Sammy" the fur seal swimming around and occasionally lounging on the lawn.
Because of its surroundings, proximity to the sea and wildlife the blue boat house is not for suitable for young children.
As well as watching the wildlife there are numerous walks to go on nearby.
You can wander down to the local white sand beach (where sea lions also sometimes sunbath)
or take a 400m walk up the hill for stunning views of the harbour entrance, mole and Aramoana.
When you have finished taking in the view you can walk down through WW gun emplacements
to the locals fishing spots at the harbours edge and try your luck. Then return, relax and watch the ships pass by
- Cruise ships (seasonal), container ships, fishing’s boats, the Monarch, sailing yachts and kayaks.
The Blue Boat House is a truly amazing, beautiful and romantic spot. Use it as your base to explore the Otago Peninsula.
Or just relax, watch the scenery, sunrises, sunsets unwinding in comfort, surrounded by wildlife and the sounds of nature.

To wine and dine outside on deck over the water is a awesome experience.
There is a grassy BBQ area with plenty of seating,
and down by the water a claw foot outside bath.
Open the bi-fold window in the bedroom and lie back listen to the waves
and wildlife or just the smell of the sea air.

Guest comments:
The Blue Boat House was by far the most special place we stayed on our tour of the South Island. The location was exceptional. There was so much to see from the terrace: cruise ships sailing past, seals and dolphins swimming just a few metres away and, best of all, little blue penguins coming ashore at dusk to sleep under the house. Inside the Blue Boat House everything was immaculate. The owners used it themselves and tender loving care was evident everywhere. The Blue Boat House was very tastefully furnished and very comfortable. There was a great selection of books on local wildlife to read and an excellent pair of binoculars to scan the bay. The owner was there to meet us on our arrival. He took the trouble to explain how everything worked and offered some valuable tips on what to do and to see on the Otago Peninsula. A memorable couple of days.- Howard and Elisabeth Pullan, Leeds, England

The blue boat house is fantastic! There is nothing like it; we caught fish and launched our kayak off the private deck, enjoyed watching the penguins come up at dusk and waved to the people on the cruise ship going past! The house is charming with it's nautical theme but very modern; everything you need is provided, it was spotlessly clean, secure and extremely comfortable. We would highly recommend this beautiful house and friendly accommodating hosts and we will be back for sure! - Amdan
