Luxury eco garden accommodation with spectacular views of Dunedin’s Otago Peninsula

Hereweka2

Hereweka Garden Retreat offers self contained architecturally eco designed
boutique accommodation to blend in with the stunning natural setting of garden,
bush and water and offers complete privacy.
It is airy and light and has magnificent views from every window
and from decks on two levels.

Located in the renowned Hereweka Garden, the secluded retreat has the only
remaining valley of native forest on the Otago Peninsula, and overlooks
the breath-taking vista of Hoopers Inlet. Just 30 minutes drive from the central city
in Dunedin, it is situated on the slopes of the iconic Harbour Cone,
far from the noise of traffic and close to many attractions on the Otago Peninsula.

Hereweka Garden Retreat provides luxury accommodation for two to three people. Luxuriate in the super king bed, or two singles,
with top quality latex mattresses and luxury cotton sheets. Watch the sun rise over Hoopers Inlet from the comfort of your bed,
then open the French doors to the balcony off the bedroom and enjoy the dawn chorus. (We can provide an extra bed or cot on request.)

The well equipped kitchen downstairs offers magnificent views onto the inlet where you will be supplied
with breakfast ingredients including homemade organic bread, jam and fresh eggs.
Avail yourself of the quality utensils and fixtures including an espresso coffee machine, fridge and oven, which provide every facility for cooking meals through the day. Selected recycled items such as the fine porcelain dinner set, linen tea towels
and bone handled knives, will add class and quality to your experience.

Make the most of a showering experience that is truly unique
The floor to ceiling sliding door opens from the shower onto the deck,
and bathes you in the beauty and freshness of the morning as you wash.
When you emerge from the high pressure shower, use the luxury towels and robes.
A hairdryer, heated towel rail, mirror demister, New Zealand-based eco-friendly toiletries and soap are also provided.

There is a range of New Zealand wines, including organic wines to purchase. A hamper of good quality organic produce
can be ordered when booking your accommodation. Alternatively there are several restaurants to choose from
with an excellent local restaurant café and delicatessens supplying a wide range of organic produce only 5 minutes away.
Next door is the dairy and delicatessen where local honey,
fresh eggs and vegetables and locally roasted coffee are available for purchase.

The choices are yours:

  • Relax in the eco retreat and enjoy your views out onto the stunning garden and forested hills beyond.
  • Wander the paths of the four acre garden, and explore the bush walks and tracks that surround it.
  • Sit quietly and watch for native birds that abound in the bush – bellbirds, kereru, riflemen, kingfishers and tui.
  • Take the five minute walk to Hoopers Inlet and check out the wide-ranging species of wading birds that inhabit the estuary.
  • Cycle or drive to the habitats of the unique indigenous wildlife in the immediate vicinity. Penguins, hooker sea lions,
seals and the northern royal albatross – you can catch them all in one outing.
