Portobello is the ‘hub’ of the Peninsula and central to all its wonderful attractions - beautiful scenery, diverse wild life and bird life, beaches and tidal inlets on the ocean side, and water views framed by the hills of Dunedin on the harbourside.
Great for walking, driving, biking, kayaking (kayak hire 5 minute walk or launch your own from our door) - our beautiful Peninsula is here to explore and enjoy.
A twenty minute HARBOURSIDE drive from Portobello in either direction will take you to Dunedin, or to Taiaroa Head (our wonderful Albatross Colony). The “High Road” from Portobello (Highcliff Road) to Dunedin offers sweeping ocean coastal views to one side, and the city and harbour views to the other.
Or just sit and watch the bird life on the beach at our door.
|
|
Location: On the harbour’s edge, we are 1 to 2 minutes walk around the corner to all the conveniences of Portobello:
In the matter of food:
- “Portobello Store” - well stocked friendly dairy;
- “Portobello Takeaways” (fresh blue cod) - “Ric’s Galley”
- Quality well known restaurant “1908”
- “Portobello Hotel” with bar and bistro meals (enjoy the view)
- “Portobello Cafe” (there’s that view again).
In the matter of activities:
- Otago University Marine Centre and Aquarium (15 minute scenic walk)
- Peninsula Kayak Centre (5 minute walk)
