 Tucked into a lovely little bay just above the enchanting “Pudding Island” and before you reach Portobello itself is one of the Peninsula’s original treasures The 'Yellow House', as it is known to the locals, dates back to the 1890s and is now a unique sanctuary, offering a variety of luxury accommodation to both the discerning and weary traveller alike.

The ‘Starry Suite’
The Starry Suite is situated in a separate wing off the main house. The large bedroom and private relaxation areas offer breathtaking views of the harbour and nearby Pudding Island. A large glass ceiling over the sitting area means guests can gaze up at the star-filled Southern skies on clear nights. A two-person spa bath features in the large ensuite bathroom. Rate: $240 per night (television in own private sitting area).

The 'Bedroom'
The Bedroom is set in the original house and offers delightful views of both the harbour and garden. So close to the water, guests can listen to the calming sounds of the harbour whilst lying in the beautiful queen sized bed. A separate entrance and ensuite allows guests the privacy to enjoy the comfort and serenity provided by The Bedroom. Rate: $195 per night.

Our rooms are finished with the greatest attention to detail, including pure New Zealand wool duvets, electric blankets, high quality linen and feather and down pillows.

Breakfast is served in The ‘Tower’ , where guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast and soak up the stunning scenery. The Yellow House offers a wonderful selection of yoghurt, fruits, cereals, homemade muesli and jams with fresh bread straight from the oven, as well as juices and freshly brewed tea or coffee. Followed by a cooked sweet or savoury full breakfast, the Yellow House breakfast is the perfect start to a day exploring the scenery and wildlife of the Otago Peninsula.
A hair dryer, iron and ironing board, barbeque facilities, games, books and movies are all available for guests upon request.
Complimentary tea and coffee are always available, along with tempting sweet treats from the cookie jar!

 The Yellow House is set amongst tranquil, mature gardens. Paths wind between the beds leading to secluded hideaways for guests to forget the world and enjoy the peaceful ambiance.
The Yellow House is the perfect base for exploring the many delights the Otago Peninsula has to offer.
The Yellow House has two permanent guests, beautiful Birman Cats named Vincent and Amber. Abundant wildlife and stunning scenery make the Peninsula a must for those interested in flora, fauna and history.

Jan and Mike have extensive knowledge of the area and will happily give you information and advice on everything to see and do on the Peninsula and surrounds. The wildlife which frequents the Peninsula and Harbour includes Yellow Eyed Penguins, Royal Albatross, seals, sea lions, little blue penguins, shags (cormorants), spoonbills, plovers, herons, dolphins and whales.
Larnach Castle, New Zealand Marine Studies Centre and Aquarium, Fletcher House and Glenfalloch Gardens or various walking tracks are just some of the attractions guests can enjoy a short distance from the Yellow House.

 After many years working here on the Peninsula and with a passion and a dream of running our own bed and breakfast we searched for the perfect location and hand picked the 'Yellow House'.
We then set to create and mould it specifically with you, our guests, in mind We now warmly welcome you to our home the 'Yellow House’.
